I wanna have a big backyard.
I wanna have a mailbox and swings.
I wanna have a welcome mat and a porcelain cat,
And a doorbell that rings.
I wanna have a burglar alarm
To keep my family from harm,

I wanna be Marginal Middle Class,
I wanna be Respectable Middle Class,
I wanna hire a kid to cut the grass,
I wanna be Marginal Middle Class.

I wanna join the local lodge.
I wanna have a two car garage.
I wanna do a high school play with the P.T.A.
I wanna have a new Dodge.
I wanna have a steady job.
I wanna eat corn on the cob.

I wanna be Marginal Middle Class,
I wanna be Respectable Middle Class,
I wanna hedge my bets, I wanna cover my ass,
I wanna be Marginal Middle Class.

I don't wanna have a lot of dough,
I just wanna be your average Joe.
I wanna have just enough to see an occasional Broadway show.

I wanna have a swimming pool.
I wanna have a couple of kids.
I wanna have a motorbike and a dog named Mike
And two guinea pigs.
I wanna have a library card.
I don't wanna have to work too hard.

I wanna be "Honey, can we eat out tonight ?" Middle Class,
I wanna be "Daddy, Roger punched me on the nose." Middle Class,
I wanna live right near the overpass,
I wanna be Marginal Middle Class.
I wanna be Marginal Middle Class.
